The global burden of mental health conditions is enormous — yet the public health workforce remains critically under-resourced. This online MPH (18–24 months, 138 ECTS) from JLI Switzerland covers mental health epidemiology, policy, community mental health, substance use, and psychosocial support. Graduates drive mental health programmes at WHO, national agencies, NGOs, and health systems.
The programme addresses the social determinants of mental health, the burden of depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use disorders, and the design of community-based mental health services in both high-income and low-resource settings. Students gain skills in mental health programme management, advocacy, stigma reduction, crisis intervention, and integration of mental health into primary healthcare — areas of urgent global priority. Core public health training in epidemiology, biostatistics, health planning, community medicine, and environmental health ensures graduates have a well-rounded competency to lead cross-cutting mental health initiatives. The dissertation phase allows students to pursue original research on a mental health topic with direct relevance to their professional context or target population.

• Bachelor’s degree in any life sciences related field
e.g., Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Nursing, MBBS, Pharmacy, Public Health, or related disciplines.
