When disasters strike, public health professionals are on the frontlines protecting lives and rebuilding systems. This online MPH specialisation (18–24 months, 138 ECTS) from JLI Switzerland covers emergency preparedness, disaster response, humanitarian logistics, and public health in crises. Graduates work with WHO, UN agencies, Red Cross, national disaster management authorities, and humanitarian NGOs.
The programme covers the full disaster management cycle — prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery — with a strong focus on the public health consequences of natural disasters, complex emergencies, conflict, and climate-related crises. Students develop skills in needs assessment, coordination mechanisms, supply chain management in emergencies, refugee health, and communicable disease control in displacement settings. Core public health training in epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems, community medicine, and environmental health ensures graduates bring technical rigour to the management of health outcomes in disaster contexts. The dissertation component supports graduates in producing original applied research that contributes to improving humanitarian health response.
